Demis Roussos (Artemios Ventouris Roussos) was a Greek singer and musician who was originally known worldwide as a member the band of Aphrodite’s Child with Vangelis Papathanassiou and had a tremendous success, especially in the 1970s, and sold over 70 million albums worldwide.
He was born on June 15, 1946, in Alexandria, where he grew up with his parents, George and Olga, who were Greeks of Egypt.

His mother was a well-known singer with the nickname Nelly Mazloum and his father a mechanic and classical guitarist. During his childhood, Roussos studied music and was a member of the Byzantine ecclesiastical choir of Alexandria.
